In what is looking like a possibly permanent change, Doug Flutie will again replace Mike Mayock in NBC’s Notre Dame football booth. In other news, ESPN has re-signed NBA front office analyst Tom Penn and NBCSN has hired former UCLA men’s basketball coach Ben Howland.
Flutie to Replace Mayock Again
- NBC Sports has named Doug Flutie the game analyst for Saturday’s Louisville/Notre Dame college football telecast, the second week straight week the network has used Flutie instead of Mike Mayock. Mayock will again fill Flutie’s usual role of sideline and studio analyst. In a press release, NBC executive producer Sam Flood said the network was “pleased with the results of last week’s broadcast positions and thought it made for a compelling telecast.” (NBC Sports Group Press Box)
ESPN Re-Signs NBA Analyst Penn
- ESPN has reached a multi-year contract extension with NBA analyst Tom Penn, it was announced this week. Penn, who joined ESPN in 2010, will continue to analyze front office decisions on ESPN’s various studio shows. (ESPN Media Zone)
Howland Joins NBCSN, Will Debut Friday
- Former UCLA head men’s basketball coach Ben Howland has joined NBC Sports as a college basketball analyst on NBCSN, the network announced earlier this month. Howland will make his debut on Friday’s Barclays Center Classic doubleheader. (NBC Sports Group Press Box)
