With the result a foregone conclusion, the Heisman Trophy Presentation hit at least a six-year low in overnights. In other news, overnights were flat for the latest UFC telecast on FOX, and the first ever golf telecast on FOX had a slight uptick.
Overnights Drop For Heisman, 30 For 30
- The Heisman Trophy Presentation drew a 2.0 overnight rating on ESPN Saturday night, down 26% from last year (2.7), down 36% from 2012 (3.1), and the lowest overnight for the event since at least 2008. Oregon QB Marcus Mariota was widely expected to win the award and did so by a comfortable margin. Later in the night, the ESPN 30 For 30 documentary The U Part II had a 1.3 overnight (-13%).
UFC on FOX Even With Last Year
- Airing opposite the Heisman presentation, the latest edition of the UFC on FOX drew a 1.8 overnight rating — even with last year’s December telecast (1.8) and up 13% from the most recent telecast in July (1.6). Four of the past five UFC telecasts on FOX have failed to draw at least a 2.0 overnight.
Slight Uptick For First Golf Telecast on FOX
- Final round coverage of the Franklin Templeton Shootout golf tournament, the first golf telecast on FOX, drew a 0.6 overnight rating Saturday afternoon — up a tick from last year (0.5) and even with 2012 (0.6), both on NBC. Keep in mind the final round aired on Sunday prior to this year. Versus the comparable Saturday telecasts, which featured second round action, the 0.6 overnight was even with last year and down a tick from 2012 (0.7).
