Wizards/Hawks is proving to be one of the weaker NBA playoff draws in recent years.
Game 2 of the Wizards/Hawks NBA playoff series drew just under 3.0 million viewers on TNT Tuesday night, down 34% from Nets/Heat Game 1 last year (4.5M) and down 21% from Pacers/Knicks Game 2 in 2013 (3.7M).
The Hawks’ win ranks as the least-watched second round playoff game in five years — since Magic/Hawks Game 3 in 2010 (2.0M). Keep in mind that does not include Sunday’s series opener on ABC, which earned the network’s lowest playoff overnight ever (2.6). It is possible that game will finish with a smaller audience when final numbers are released.
Later in the night, Game 2 of Grizzlies/Warriors drew 4.1 million viewers — down 14% from Blazers/Spurs Game 1 last year (4.8M) and down 13% from Grizzlies/Thunder in 2013 (4.8M).
Through Tuesday, 37 of the 45 NBA playoff games have had a year-over-year decline in viewership, with 31 of those games down by double-digits. Compared to 2013, 25 of the 45 games have declined. Again, that does not include Sunday’s ABC doubleheader.
