Overnight ratings for the Home Run Derby bounced back from last year’s rain-addled low.
The 2015 MLB Home Run Derby earned a 4.9 overnight rating on ESPN Monday night, up 26% from last year’s rain-delayed coverage (3.9) and down a tick from 2013 (5.0). The 4.9 is the second-highest for the event since 2009 (5.6), trailing only 2013.
The Home Run Derby ranks as the highest rated sporting event on cable in the metered markets since the NBA Western Conference Finals in May, comfortably topping the two Stanley Cup Final games on NBCSN and the two USA Women’s World Cup matches on Fox Sports 1.
Host market Cincinnati delivered a 19.6 rating for Monday’s telecast, the highest on record for the Home Run Derby in any market. St. Louis ranked second with an 11.3, with Kansas City (10.4), Dayton, OH (9.7) and Pittsburgh (7.9) rounding out the top five.
