The Chicago Cubs scored their highest local rating of the season last weekend. In other news, Wednesday Night Baseball put up mediocre numbers on ESPN, and Serena Williams’ upset loss last weekend was no match for her upset loss last year.
Cubs Hit Local High Last Weekend
- Last Saturday’s Cubs/White Sox Major League Baseball game drew a 7.6 rating on Chicago ABC affiliate WLS, the highest Cubs rating of the season on any local outlet. Ratings were not immediately available for the White Sox version of the broadcast, which aired on Comcast SportsNet Chicago. Cubs games have averaged a 4.7 rating on WLS this season, the network’s first covering the team. (Chicago Tribune)
Tigers/Cubs Middling Draw on Wednesday Night Baseball
- The Tigers/Cubs Wednesday Night Baseball game drew 644,000 viewers on ESPN, ranking eighth out of the 19 Wednesday night telecasts this season. So far this season, 42 of the 66 MLB telecasts on the ESPN family of networks have had fewer than one million viewers. (via ShowBuzz Daily)
Fewer Viewers For Williams Upset
- Serena Williams‘ upset loss to Belinda Bencic in last Saturday’s Rogers Cup semifinal had 415,000 viewers on ESPN2, down 20% from her loss to sister Venus Williams in last year’s semifinal (516K). The Bencic/Simona Halep final drew 410,000 the following day, down 3% from last year’s V. Williams/Agnieska Radawanska final (422K). (via Sports TV Ratings [1], [2])
