The SEC on CBS continued its soft start over the weekend.
The Auburn/LSU college football game drew a 2.7 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, down 36% from South Carolina/Georgia last year (4.2) and down 70% from Alabama/Texas A&M in 2013 (9.0). Those games marked the season debut of the SEC on CBS.
The 2.7 overnight tops the two early season games on CBS, Louisville/Auburn in week one (2.6) and Georgia/Vanderbilt last week (1.8). However, it is the lowest for CBS on its traditional ‘opening week’ since at least 2007.
Head-to-head, LSU’s blowout win edged Georgia Tech/Notre Dame on NBC (2.6) and trailed ABC’s regional window (3.7). Despite CBS’ slogan that it has “the best game from the best conference” every week, Auburn/LSU was no match for ESPN’s Mississippi/Alabama game later in the night (4.6).
