A blowout on paper that lived down to its billing, Ohio State’s blowout of Rutgers pulled in decent enough numbers on ABC.
The Ohio State/Rutgers college football game drew a 3.3 overnight rating on ABC Saturday night, down 61% from Notre Dame/Florida State last year (8.5), and down 11% from Florida State/Clemson in 2013 (3.7). Keep in mind last year’s game was a top five thriller between two of the highest-profile schools in the country.
The Buckeyes’ 42-point win scored the second-highest college football overnight of the weekend, trailing only Tennessee/Alabama on CBS (4.2). For the season, it ranks fifth out of the eight Saturday Night Football telecasts.
Earlier in the day, regional action drew a 3.2 overnight — up 19% from last year (2.7) and down a tick from 2013 (3.3), both of which were also regional windows. The telecast ranked third for the weekend.
Clemson’s blowout of Miami started the day off with a 2.0 overnight. There were no comparable games last year or in 2013.
