A college football doubleheader delivered the highest and lowest overnight of the season on FOX.
The Baylor/Oklahoma State college football game drew a 2.8 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night, up 180% from Texas/Oklahoma State last year (1.0), up a third from Texas Tech/Baylor in 2013 (2.1) and the network’s highest rated game of the season in the metered markets. The previous high was a 2.4 for Utah/USC in week eight.
Going back further, the 2.8 is the highest for college football on FOX — excluding bowls and conference championships — since Michigan State/Oregon in week two of last season (4.0).
The Bears’ blowout win edged competing coverage of the TCU/Oklahoma Saturday Night Football game on ABC (2.7), marking the first time this season that FOX has topped ABC in the metered markets. FOX has previously topped ABC in the final ratings.
In other action Saturday, UCLA/Utah had a mere 0.8 overnight rating — down a tick from Washington/Arizona last year (0.9), down 53% from Oklahoma State/Texas in 2013 (1.7) and the lowest college football overnight of the season on a broadcast network. The previous low was a 1.0 for Iowa/Iowa State on FOX in week two.
The Bruins’ win aired directly opposite the game of the week, Michigan State/Ohio State on ABC (7.0). It was also trounced by a poor-performing LSU/Mississippi game on CBS (1.9).
