For the second time in three years, Fox Sports is shaking up its lead MLB broadcast team.
Fox Sports announced Tuesday that it has promoted John Smoltz to its lead Major League Baseball broadcast team, replacing the duo of Harold Reynolds and Tom Verducci. Starting next season, he will work alongside the returning Joe Buck in a two-man booth.
The move, originally reported by the New York Daily News, marks the second change to the lead MLB on FOX team since Tim McCarver retired at the end of the 2013 season. Buck and McCarver were the lead team for 18 consecutive seasons.
Smoltz had been on the secondary MLB on FOX broadcast team, working with Matt Vasgersian. Prior to joining FOX in 2013, he called games for Turner Sports. Reynolds and Verducci are expected to stay with FOX in other roles.
