Viewership for the Texas Bowl could not match last year’s record high.
Tuesday’s LSU/Texas Tech Texas Bowl drew nearly 5.0 million viewers on ESPN, down 14% from Arkansas/Texas last year (5.8M) but up 24% from Syracuse/Minnesota in 2013 (4.0M). Ratings were not immediately available.
The Tigers’ win earned the second-largest audience in the ten-season history of the Texas Bowl, topping the previous mark set last year. After attracting just 186,000 viewers in its final year on NFL Network (2008), the game has topped the three million mark in each subsequent year on ESPN.
Of the 23 bowl games on ESPN through Wednesday, the Texas Bowl ranks second in viewership behind only the Music City Bowl the following day (5.4M). It was just the fourth of those 23 games surpass four million viewers.
