Overnight ratings for the Pro Bowl continued their recent descent.
The NFL Pro Bowl earned a 5.0 overnight rating on ESPN Sunday night, down 11% from last year (5.6), down 25% from 2014 on NBC (6.7) and the lowest overnight for the league’s annual All-Star game since at least 2006.
Since hitting an 8.6 in 2011, overnight ratings for the Pro Bowl have declined in each successive year. The declines, which were modest at first, have been steeper since the game shifted to an ‘unconferenced’ format in 2014.
Compared to other All-Star games, the Pro Bowl ranks well behind last year’s MLB All-Star Game on FOX (7.8) and even last year’s NBA All-Star Game, which aired on TNT and TBS (5.5). It did top Sunday’s NHL All-Star Game on NBCSN (1.2), though that is not saying much.
For the weekend, the Pro Bowl was easily the top sporting event on any network — doubling the second-place finisher, ABC’s Saturday night Spurs/Cavaliers NBA game (2.5).
