Despite pitting a pair of eventual #1 seeds, overnight ratings dipped for the ACC championship.
The North Carolina/Virginia ACC Tournament final had a 1.8 overnight rating on ESPN Saturday night, down 22% from Notre Dame/North Carolina last year (2.3) and down 18% from Virginia/Duke on a Sunday afternoon in 2014 (2.2). The 1.8 overnight is the lowest for the ACC title game in three years, since Miami/North Carolina in 2013 (1.6).
The Tar Heels’ win faced competition from the Thunder/Spurs NBA game on ABC, which had a 2.0 overnight. Last year’s game faced no such competition.
For the weekend, the ACC championship ranked fourth among college basketball games — behind the Michigan State/Purdue Big Ten final (2.4), the Kentucky/Texas A&M SEC final (2.1) and Michigan State/Maryland in a Big Ten semi (1.9).
