Though slightly off last year’s record pace, the PGA Tour’s Tampa Bay stop did well last weekend.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour at Tampa Bay earned a 2.0 final rating and 2.9 million viewers on NBC last Sunday, down 5% in ratings and viewership from last year (2.1, 3.1M) but up a third and 28%, respectively, from 2014 (1.5, 2.3M). The 2.0 rating is the second-highest for the event since it first started airing on broadcast television in 2003, ranking behind only last year.
Despite the near-record performance, ratings and viewership were the second-lowest of the season for final round coverage on broadcast (seven telecasts). Torrey Pines clocked in lower at a 1.5 and 2.3 million.
Head-to-head, the final round comfortably topped ABC’s Cavaliers/Clippers NBA game (1.6, 2.5M) but ranked well behind NASCAR on FOX (4.1, 6.6M). Ratings and viewership were not immediately available for Selection Sunday college basketball on CBS.
Third round action last Saturday delivered a 1.2 and 1.8 million, flat in ratings and up 5% in viewership from last year (1.2, 1.7M) and up 9% and 13%, respectively, from 2014 (1.1, 1.6M).
