A dramatic Copa America final featuring one of the world’s biggest stars more than made up for the United States’ absence. In other news, Yahoo!’s NBA Draft stream paled in comparison to ESPN’s TV coverage, and MLB on FOX scored another increase in the overnights.
Copa America Final Scores Good Overnight on FS1
- The Chile/Argentina Copa America final earned a 2.2 overnight rating on Fox Sports 1 Sunday night, a virtual lock to rank as the network’s top men’s soccer match that did not involve the United States. Comparable Spanish-language numbers on Univision were not immediately available, nor were last year’s overnights for the same final matchup on beIN Sports. The 2.2 includes prematch coverage. Yahoo! Draft Stream Does Well Enough, But Trails ESPN
- Yahoo! attracted 2.8 million unique viewers for its live streaming coverage of the NBA Draft on Thursday. Average viewership per minute, the statistic most comparable to the numbers reported on this site and others, was not available.* As should be no surprise, Yahoo!’s coverage trailed that of ESPN, which saw a total audience of 14.5 million on television and 557,000 on the WatchESPN app watch at least one minute of its coverage. MLB on FOX Up, But Trails Competition
- Regional Major League Baseball action scored a 1.6 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night, up 23% from last year (1.3) but down 30% from the network’s sixth telecast in 2014 (2.3). The 1.6 is tied as the lowest of the season on FOX. Head-to-head, MLB on FOX trailed Premier Boxing Champions on CBS (1.8) and the U.S. Olympic Trials on NBC (1.8 for diving, 2.4 for men’s gymnastics). (via ShowBuzz Daily)
* As Sports TV Ratings noted, it was not clear how long Yahoo!’s live stream lasted. As a result, it was not possible to compute the average viewership per minute. Yahoo! has not yet disclosed the per-minute numbers.
