The first U.S. women’s soccer match of the Olympics attracted more than double the audience of four years ago.
Wednesday’s United States/New Zealand Olympic women’s soccer match earned a 0.8 final rating and 1.3 million viewers on NBCSN, up 100% in ratings and 107% in viewership from the first USA match of 2012, against France (0.4, 629K). Keep in mind the 2012 match aired at Noon, as opposed to 6 PM ET this year.
Viewership peaked at 1.6 million from 7:30-7:45 PM ET. Figures do not include Spanish-language viewership on NBC Universo, the live streaming audience on NBCOlympics.com, or the audience on NBC’s soccer-specific specialty channel.
Individual figures for Wednesday’s other matches were not immediately available, but NBCSN and USA Network averaged 491,000 viewers for the full day of Olympic coverage.
