An exciting finish did nothing to lift overnight ratings for the SEC on CBS.
Georgia/Tennessee drew a 2.6 overnight rating on the SEC on CBS Saturday afternoon, down 38% from Alabama/Georgia last year (4.2) and down 7% from Arkansas/Texas A&M in 2014 (2.8). The 2.6 ranks third out of the five SEC telecasts on CBS this season, trailing Florida/Tennessee the previous week (3.7) and Alabama/Mississippi in week three (5.4).
Tennessee’s win, in which the Volunteers followed up a last-second Georgia touchdown with a Hail Mary of their own, was beaten soundly in its timeslot by Wisconsin/Michigan on ABC (4.5). It did double the competing North Carolina/Florida State game on ESPN, which also had a dramatic ending (1.3).
For the weekend, the SEC on CBS ranked fourth among college football games behind all three windows on ABC.
