Though up from last year on cable, Notre Dame’s final home game of the season was not a great draw on NBC. In other news, NASCAR’s Xfinity and Truck Series finales dropped from last year, and the LPGA Tour hit a broadcast network low in its final event of the season.
NBC Posts Second-Worst Numbers of Season For Notre Dame Finale
- Notre Dame’s home finale against Virginia Tech earned a 1.5 final rating and 2.4 million viewers on NBC last Saturday afternoon, up 36% in ratings and 23% in viewership from their final home game last season, a primetime neutral site matchup with Boston College on NBCSN (1.1, 2.0M). Compared to Notre Dame’s 2014 home finale against Louisville, which aired on NBC, ratings fell 25% (from 2.0) and viewership 21% (from 3.1M). The Hokies’ comeback win topped only Army/Notre Dame the previous week (1.0, 1.5M) as NBC’s lowest rated and least-watched game of the season.
NASCAR Xfinity, Truck Series Finales Down
- The NASCAR Xfinity Series finale from Homestead earned a 0.8 final rating and 1.4 million viewers on NBCSN Saturday afternoon, down a third in ratings and 26% in viewership from last year on the NBC broadcast network (1.2, 1.8M) and down a tick (0.9 to 0.8) and 5% (1.43M to 1.35M) respectively from 2014 on ESPN. In other action from Homestead, the Truck Series finale had 581,000 viewers on Fox Sports 1 the night before, down 10% from last year (647K) but up 16% from ’14 (507K).
LPGA Season-Ender Hits Broadcast Season-Low
- Final round coverage of the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship had a 0.4 final rating and 509,000 viewers on ABC last Sunday afternoon, flat in ratings but down 6% in viewership from last year (0.4, 539K). As should be no surprise, given it aired on an NFL Sunday, it was the least-watched LPGA round on a broadcast network this season (ten total).
