Neither the ACC nor AAC could move the needle for ABC.
The Clemson/Virginia Tech ACC Championship Game had a 3.6 overnight rating on ABC’s Saturday Night Football over the weekend, down 22% from Clemson/North Carolina last year (4.6) and down 48% from Florida State/Georgia Tech in 2014 (6.9). The 3.6 is the lowest for the ACC title game since it last aired on ESPN in 2012 (1.6).
The Tigers’ closer-than-expected win was trounced head-to-head by the Penn State/Wisconsin Big Ten Championship on FOX (5.5). For the weekend, it ranked fourth among all college football games behind the Big Ten title game, the Washington/Colorado Pac-12 Championship on FOX (3.9) and the Alabama/Florida SEC Championship on CBS (7.0).
For the season, the 3.6 ranks eighth out of the 14 Saturday Night Football windows on ABC.
Earlier in the day, the Temple/Navy American Athletic Championship had a 1.6 overnight — down 20% from last year’s inaugural matchup between Houston and Temple (2.0) and down 47% from an Iowa State/TCU Big 12 matchup in 2014 (3.0).
