The numbers are still nothing to brag about, but Monday Night Football hit a multi-year high for the third time in four weeks.
Carolina/Washington scored an 8.0 overnight rating on the Week 15 edition of ESPN’s Monday Night Football, up 8% from Lions/Saints last year (7.4), up 5% from Saints/Bears in 2014 (7.6) and the highest for MNF in Week 15 of the season since Ravens/Lions three years ago (9.7).
The Panthers’ win, which peaked at a 9.6 from 9:45-10 PM ET, was the third of the past four MNF telecasts to hit a multi-year high in the metered markets. All other Monday night games this season have hit multi-year lows.
Despite the multi-year high, the 8.0 is still not particularly impressive. It ranks seventh out of this year’s 16 MNF windows and would have ranked 15th last season.
ESPN’s telecast had an 11.5 rating in Charlotte and an 8.0 in Washington (D.C.). Coverage was simulcast on local ABC affiliates in both markets, earning a 14.7 on WSOC in Charlotte and a 13.9 on WJLA in Washington. Richmond, VA (16.1), Norfolk, VA (15.4) and Greensboro, NC (14.1) rounded out the top five.
