NASCAR’s All-Star Race was just the latest to post a decline in the metered markets. In other news, the PGA Tour’s Byron Nelson Championship did well despite a decline, and MLB on FOX posted an uptick.
NASCAR All-Star Race Hits Low
- The NASCAR All-Star Race earned a 1.5 overnight rating on Fox Sports 1 Saturday night, down 12% from last year (1.7) and down 29% from 2015 (2.1). The 1.5 is the lowest for the event in at least five years (overnights prior to 2013 were not available). Overnights have now declined for at least eight of the 11 Cup Series telecasts this year.
PGA Byron Nelson Overnights Good Despite Dip
- Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Byron Nelson Classic had a 2.2 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, down 12% from last year (2.5) but up 10% from 2015 (2.0). Despite the lower numbers, the 2.2 overnight is the second-best for any round of the tournament in at least nine years. Third round action on Saturday had a 1.3 (-24%).
MLB on FOX Scores Uptick in Metered Markets
- Regional Major League Baseball action on FOX featuring Angels-Mets in 45% of markets earned a 1.6 overnight rating Saturday night, up a tick from the comparable weekend last year (1.5). The telecast also posted an uptick over the season’s previous MLB on FOX window, Yankees-Cubs two weeks earlier.
