The overnights were a little too generous for college football on FOX.
FOX earned a 2.9 rating and 4.9 million viewers for Saturday’s Texas-USC game, down 15% in ratings and viewership from Ohio State-Oklahoma last year, which was delayed 90 minutes due to inclement weather (3.4, 5.8M), but up 107% and 115% respectively from Cal-Texas in 2015 (1.4, 2.3M).
Excluding conference championship and bowl games, the Trojans’ double-overtime win delivered the ninth-largest college football audience on FOX.
After topping the charts in the overnight ratings, Saturday’s game finished third for the weekend behind Tennessee-Florida on CBS (3.2, 5.1M) and the competing Clemson-Louisville game on ABC (3.0, 5.1M).
Earlier in the day, Army-Ohio State had a 1.5 and 2.5 million. There was no comparable window last year. On Fox Sports 1, Northern Illinois-Nebraska drew a 0.49 (+172%) and 808,000 (+189%).
