The second top five matchup in as many weeks delivered a good overnight on ABC.
Oklahoma-Ohio State delivered a 5.3 overnight rating on ABC’s Saturday Night Football last night, up 39% from Virginia Tech-Tennessee last year (3.8) and up 6% from Oregon-Michigan State in 2015 (5.0). Compared to the teams’ meeting on FOX last year, which was delayed 90 minutes due to inclement weather, overnights also increased 39% from a 3.8.
The Sooners’ win delivered the top college football overnight of the day, beating NBC’s Georgia-Notre Dame telecast by 77%.
Columbus, Ohio, led all markets Saturday night with a 39.6 rating, followed by Oklahoma City (33.4), Tulsa (25.3), Dayton, Ohio (22.6) and Cleveland-Akron (19.5). Austin, Tx., was the top market outside of the participating states with a 10.0.
Earlier in the day, Cincinnati-Michigan pulled a 2.8 overnight (+27%) and Pittsburgh-Penn State a 2.7 (-4%). ESPN/ABC pulled four of the weekend’s five highest college football overnights, with ESPN’s Auburn-Clemson game fifth at a 2.0.
