College football viewership jumped double-digits on FOX last weekend, Notre Dame hit a low in its return to NBCSN, and Chelsea-Manchester City topped last week’s Premier League slate.
Double-Digit Bump For FOX CFB Doubleheader
FOX earned a 1.6 rating and 2.7 million viewers for last Saturday’s Oklahoma State-Texas Tech college football game, up 78% in ratings and 84% in viewership from Arizona State-USC last year (0.9, 1.5M) and up 14% and 24% respectively from Arizona State-UCLA in 2015 (1.4, 2.2M). Earlier in the day, Iowa-Michigan State had a 1.5 (+15%) and 2.5 million (+23%).
Over on Fox Sports 1, last Friday’s Nebraska-Illinois game had a 0.55 rating and 1.1 million viewers, the network’s third-largest audience of the season. There was no comparable window last year.
Notre Dame Hits Low in Return to NBCSN
Last Saturday’s Miami (Ohio)-Notre Dame game had a 0.49 rating and 798,000 viewers on NBCSN, marking the lowest rated and least-watched Notre Dame game on any network since at least 2008. Compared to NBCSN’s previous Notre Dame telecast, a primetime matchup against Boston College in 2015, ratings fell 57% and viewership 60% from a 1.15 and 2.0 million.
Chelsea-Man. City Tops EPL Week 7 Slate
Saturday’s Chelsea-Manchester City English Premier League match had a 0.36 rating and 550,000 viewers on NBCSN, up 20% in ratings and 3% in viewership from Newcastle-Chelsea in 2015 (0.30, 534K). There was no comparable window last year. Manchester City’s win was the highest rated and most-watched match of the weekend.
In other action, Manchester United-Crystal Palace had a 0.29 (+4%) and 423,000 (-8%) earlier Saturday and Newcastle-Liverpool drew a 0.27 (+4%) and 405,000 (-3%) on Sunday. Rounding out the weekend, Everton-Burnley had 281,000 (-45%), Huddersfield-Tottenham 236,000 (-30%), and Arsenal-Brighton 184,000 (-23%).
