NASCAR ratings remain at the lowest level on record.
The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs from Dover (Del.) earned a 1.3 rating and 2.0 million viewers on NBCSN, down 13% in ratings and 20% in viewership from last year (1.5, 2.6M) and down 32% and 37% respectively from 2015 (1.9, 3.2M).
Excluding rainouts, Kyle Busch‘s win is tied as the lowest rated NASCAR playoff race ever (dates back to 2004) and the second-lowest rated Cup Series race of any kind since at least 2000, matching New Hampshire the previous week.
The past four races rank as the four lowest rated since at least 2000.
Sunday’s race was also the second-least watched Cup Series telecast since at least 2001, ahead of New Hampshire the previous week (2.0M).
As one would expect given the overall lows, it was the lowest rated rated Dover race since at least 2000 and the least-watched since at least 2001, falling below the previous marks set last year. Just four years ago, Dover had a 2.4 rating and 4.0 million viewers on ESPN.
A whopping 24 of 28 Cup Series races this season have posted a decline in ratings and viewership. Dover was the 23rd of those races to at least tie an all-time or decade-plus ratings low, and the 21st to do so in viewership.
