FOX NFL ratings scored a rare bump last weekend, the SEC on CBS was a mixed bag, and Notre Dame on NBC ended on a solid note.
FOX NFL Ratings Score Rare Bump in Week 12
Last Sunday’s NFL singleheader on FOX — featuring Washington-New Orleans or Rams-Giants in nearly two-thirds of markets — had a 9.4 rating and 15.7 million viewers, up 12% in ratings and 10% in viewership from last year (8.4, 14.3M) and down 10% in both measures from 2015 on CBS (10.4, 17.4M).
Excluding windows that featured the Cowboys, it was the first NFL increase on FOX all season. Every other network had posted at least two increases.
SEC on CBS Mixed Last Weekend
Kentucky-Georgia drew a 2.1 rating and 3.4 million viewers on the SEC on CBS last weekend, up 40% in ratings and 38% in viewership from Missouri-Tennessee last year (1.5, 2.4M) and up a tick and 7% respectively from LSU-Mississippi in 2015 (2.0, 3.2M). It joined Georgia-Auburn the previous week as the only SEC on CBS games to increase over last year.
Earlier in the day, Mississippi State-Arkansas had a 1.1 and 1.7 million — possibly the lowest rated SEC game ever on CBS. No other SEC on CBS telecast has fallen below a 1.5 rating since at least 2008.
NBC Ends Notre Dame Season on Good Note
In NBC’s final Notre Dame telecast this season, Navy-Notre Dame delivered a 2.0 rating and 3.2 million viewers last Saturday — up a third in ratings and 31% in viewership from last year’s finale (Virginia Tech-Notre Dame: 1.5, 2.4M). The 2015 finale, a Shamrock Series game between Notre Dame and Boston College, aired on NBCSN in primetime (1.1, 2.0M).
For the season, Saturday’s game ranks second among Notre Dame telecasts on NBC. Georgia-Notre Dame in week two, which aired in primetime, holds the top spot (2.4, 4.1M).
