No Tony Romo on CBS in Week 17; Fox could be eyeing Philip Rivers for its NFL “B” team; the NHL is reportedly planning outdoor games at Lake Tahoe.
Romo out for Week 17 over COVID rules
CBS NFL analyst Tony Romo will miss Sunday’s Cardinals-Rams broadcast due to COVID-19 precautions and be replaced by Boomer Esiason. It will be Romo’s first missed assignment since joining CBS in the 2017 season. Romo is far from the first NFL broadcaster to miss an assignment due to COVID-19 this season; Al Michaels missed a Sunday Night Football game two weeks ago and Kenny Albert was forced to skip the first two weeks of the season. Fox could be interested in Rivers for #2 role
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers could be a contender for the #2 NFL analyst spot on FOX, Front Office Sports reported Thursday. Daryl Johnston is currently serving in that role as a placeholder after Charles Davis left for CBS last year. [Front Office Sports 12.31]
NHL reportedly plans outdoor games at Lake Tahoe
The NHL plans to hold two outdoor games at Lake Tahoe this season that would be nationally televised by NBC, according to multiple reports. The first game would be Avalanche-Golden Knights on February 20, followed by Bruins-Flyers the following day. Fans would not be allowed to attend either game. [ESPN.com 1.1]
