For the second straight week, NBC drew solid numbers thanks to coverage of the Olympic trials.
The swimming and track & field trials drew a 4.2/8 on NBC from 7-9 PM ET Sunday night, down only 5% from a 4.4 for comparable coverage in 2004. According to preliminary numbers, NBC drew 5.5 million viewers and a 1.6/5 rating among adults 18-49.
For the second straight week, prime time coverage of the Olympic trials drew the highest overnight of any sporting event for the weekend.
At least in the key adults 18-49 demo, swimming was more popular than track & field. NBC averaged a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 for track & field coverage during the 7 PM hour. That increased 67% to a 2.0 rating during the 8 PM hour, when NBC aired swimming.
Partly on the strength of Olympic trials coverage, NBC won Sunday night among adults 18-49.
