For the fifth time in six races this season, NASCAR’s Sprint Cup had an increase in overnight ratings on FOX.
Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup STP Gas Booster 500 from Martinsville drew a 4.0 overnight rating on FOX, up a tick from both last year and 2011 (3.9). Despite the increases, the 4.0 ranks as the third-lowest for the race since it moved to FOX in the 2001 season.
The 4.0 is also the lowest overnight of the season for any Sprint Cup race.
With that said, Sunday’s race was the fifth of six Sprint Cup telecasts this season to have an increase in overnight ratings. In addition, excluding the NCAA Tournament Final Four, NASCAR earned the top overnight of the weekend for a sporting event on broadcast TV.
