Compared to last year’s tournament, which faced the Olympics, this year’s PGA Championship has surged on CBS and Turner Sports.
Third round coverage of the PGA Championship earned a 3.0 overnight on CBS Saturday afternoon, up 11% from last year’s live coverage* (2.7) and up 15% from 2011 (2.6). Keep in mind last year’s telecast aired opposite the Olympics.
The 3.0 is the highest for third round coverage on CBS since 2010 (3.1). With that said, the 3.0 is the third-lowest for third round coverage since at least 1996 (excludes rainouts).
Over on TNT, third round coverage drew a 1.6 overnight — up 78% from last year (0.9), and also the highest since 2010 (1.7).
TNT averaged a 1.4 overnight for the first three rounds of the PGA Championship, up 56% from last year (0.9), and the highest since 2009 (1.5).
* Last year’s 2.7 overnight is for live golf coverage. The full telecast window, which included rainout coverage, earned a 2.3.
