Facing the Final Four, the debut of Major League Baseball on Fox Sports 1 earned very low numbers over the weekend.
Saturday’s Twins/Indians Major League Baseball game, the first ever regular season MLB telecast on Fox Sports 1, earned a 0.3 overnight rating. Giants/Dodgers later in the day, which faced competition from the Final Four on TBS, TNT and TruTV, earned a 0.4 overnight.
By comparison, last year’s MLB opener on the FOX broadcast network earned a 2.3 overnight. Last year’s lowest MLB on FOX overnight was a 1.2.
For some perspective, Saturday’s MLB doubleheader on Fox Sports 1 earned numbers on par with NBCSN’s English Premier League coverage. The network’s Manchester United/Newcastle match earned a 0.4 overnight at 10:00 AM ET, and Southampton/Manchester City scored a 0.2 at 7:45.
