The Bowl Championship Series’ move to cable television is now complete.
The Rose Bowl will move to ESPN beginning in 2011, ending what will have been a 58-year-run on broadcast television. The game, which has been televised by ABC since 1989, will join the BCS National Championship Game and the Orange, Sugar and Fiesta Bowls on ESPN.
The Rose Bowl had been in the midst of an eight-year deal with ABC, which was set to last until 2014. That deal included two National Championship Games — the 2010 game, which will air on ABC, and the 2014 game, which will presumably now air on ESPN.
This leaves ABC with only one college football bowl game on its schedule — the New Year’s Day Capital One Bowl. ABC will televise its last Rose Bowl this upcoming January.
