- Dwyane Wade: The Miami Heat star is switching from Converse to the Jordan Brand. Wade, a Converse endorser since ’03, had previously expressed displeasure with representing the Converse brand — telling the Associated Press that “I didn’t want to be in the Converse brand anymore because it seemed like they didn’t know what to do with me.” The move “could all but kill any momentum for the Converse brand,” while making the rich richer. While Converse owns only 1.2% of the basketball shoe market, the Jordan Brand owns 92.8%.
- Diana Taurasi: The WNBA star has been suspended two games after being cited for DUI. Taurasi was arrested on July 2 with a blood-alcohol level “more than twice the Arizona legal limit.” On the day she was arrested, Taurasi was the leading votegetter for the WNBA All-Star Game — but by July 15, when the final results were released, she was not in the Western Conference starting five.
- Tony Hawk: The skateboarding champion will join ESPN for its coverage of the 2009 X Games. Hawk, a former X Games champion, will be the analyst for all “for all five skateboard events,” alongside Sal Masekela.
