Tiger Woods‘ success continues to reap rewards for the PGA Tour.
Final round coverage of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational drew a stellar 4.7/11 overnight rating on CBS Sunday, up 104% from a 2.3/5 last year, up 34% from a 3.5/8 in ’07, and the second-highest overnight rating of the year for a non-major PGA Tour event.
Ratings peaked at a 6.7/15 from 5:30-6 PM.
The 4.7 overnight is the best for the final round of the Bridgestone Invitational since ’06, when another Woods’ victory drew a 6.2/13. Despite the solid number, this marks the second-lowest overnight rating for a Woods victory at the Bridgestone Invitational. Only his ’07 win drew a lower overnight (3.5/8).
The Bridgestone Invitational was Woods’ fifth victory of 2009, and the fourth of those five victories to have at least a 100% rise in the overnights. Woods’ win at the Buick Open last week had a 167% increase in overnight ratings, his win at the AT&T National in July was up 207%, and his win at The Memorial in June was up 100%.
Third round coverage on Saturday drew a 2.4/6, up 41% from a 1.7 last year.
