Despite featuring third — rather than final — round coverage, the British Open held steady on Sunday.
Third round coverage of the British Open drew a 2.6 overnight rating on ESPN Sunday, even with last year’s Sunday telecast, which featured the final round. Compared to last year’s third round coverage, which aired unusually early on a Saturday to avoid rain, overnights increased by 117% from a 1.2.
Compared to 2013, the 2.6 overnight trailed both the comparable Sunday window (3.6) and third round coverage on Saturday (3.1).
Keep in mind the overnight does not include the 7-9 AM ET portion, which is measured as a separate program.
West Palm Beach was the top market for third round coverage, with a 4.5 rating. Louisville (4.3), Oklahoma City and Raleigh-Durham (3.8 in both) and Indianapolis (3.6) rounded out the top five.
