Univision alone scored nearly five million viewers for the Mexico/Costa Rica Gold Cup match.
The Mexico/Costa Rica CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal drew 4.7 million viewers on Univision and Univision Deportes Network Sunday night, the largest audience of the tournament thus far. The previous high was 3.8 million for Mexico/Guatemala on Univision/UDN the previous Sunday.
Fox Sports 1 scored 609,000 for its coverage, bringing the combined audience to approximately 5.3 million.
The match earned the largest audience for Mexico soccer since last year’s World Cup, when Mexico/Netherlands in the Round of 16 drew 10.4 million on Univision alone (17.0 million including the English-language audience on ESPN).
In other action Sunday, Trinidad & Tobago/Panama drew 2.1 million on Univision/UDN — the largest audience of the tournament excluding Mexico and United States matches. The match had 452,000 on FS1.
Gold Cup coverage has averaged 1.7 million viewers on the Univision networks through the quarterfinals, up 35% from 2013 and even with 2011.
