Basketball in the New York area has arguably hit its nadir — not just on the court, but in the television ratings.
The 2-9 Knicks have averaged a mere 0.88 rating on MSG this season, down 28% from a 1.23 through the same point last year. Ratings hit a peak of 1.42 for Knicks/Bobcats on October 30 before bottoming out at a 0.53 for Knicks/Bucks on November 7.
Across the river, the numbers are even worse. The 0-12 Nets are averaging a 0.31 rating on YES Network — down 42% from a 0.53 last year. The peak rating this season was a measly 0.56 for Nets/Celtics on November 7, while the season-low was a 0.17 for Nets/76ers on November 11.
The numbers do not include Saturday’s head-to-head matchup between the Knicks and Nets.
