Peyton Manning‘s second return to Indianapolis as an opponent did well on CBS, but still declined.
The Week 7 NFL national window, featuring Broncos/Colts, had a 16.1 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon — down 13% from coverage featuring Broncos/Patriots last year (18.6) but up 5% from Steelers/Patriots in 2013 (15.4). It also trailed Manning’s first return to Indianapolis, a Sunday night game in Week 7 of the 2013 season (17.3).
The Colts’ win marked the sixth time in nine weeks that the NFL national window has had a decline in the overnights.
Despite the drop, the 16.1 ranks as the second-highest NFL overnight on CBS this season and the eighth-highest regardless of network. It easily topped NBC’s Eagles/Cowboys Sunday Night Football game (14.7), the eighth straight week the national window has ranked ahead of SNF.
The early window had a 9.4 overnight, up 21% from last year (7.8) but down 6% from 2013 (10.0).
