NBC had mixed results on its opening weekend of NHL playoff action. In other news, Friday’s Stanley Cup viewership was also mixed on NBCSN, and overnights were flat for NBC’s Premier League action.
Mixed Overnights For Stanley Cup on NBC
- Game 3 of the Blues/Blackhawks Stanley Cup playoff series drew a 1.6 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, the same as Predators/Blackhawks last year but down 11% from Red Wings/Bruins in 2014 (1.8). The previous day, Rangers/Penguins scored a 1.2 — up a tick from regional action last year (1.1) but down 25% from Blackhawks/Blues in ’14 (1.6).
Friday’s Playoff Games Mixed on NBCSN
- NBCSN scored a 0.4 final rating and 633,000 viewers for Game 2 of Blackhawks/Blues Friday night, up a tick in ratings and 70% in viewership from Islanders/Capitals last year (0.3, 372K). In the nightcap, Predators/Ducks Game 1 had a 0.3 and 558,000 — down a tick and 14%, respectively, from Blackhawks/Predators last year (0.4, 652K). On CNBC, Red Wings/Lightning Game 2 had 315,000 (+9%).
EPL Flat on NBC
- The Chelsea/Manchester City English Premier League match scored a 0.7 overnight rating on NBC Saturday afternoon, even with Manchester City/Aston Villa in week 34 of last season. The 0.7 is tied as the fifth-lowest of the season on NBC (25 telecasts). As is usually the case, NBC’s EPL coverage trounced competing Bundesliga action on FOX, which had a 0.3.
