NASCAR can find some positive news at Michigan if it just goes out to the hundredth.
NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Michigan earned a 2.0 overnight rating on Fox Sports 1 Sunday afternoon, the same as last year, but down 23% from coverage on TNT in 2014 (2.6). Going out to the hundredth, it had a 2.04 overnight — up 4% from last year’s 1.97.
It was just the second Sprint Cup race of the season to avoid a decline in the overnights, joining Kansas on FS1 in May (+10%). That does not include races that were rained out last year.
Both this year and last, the race faced mitigating circumstances. Last year’s race was repeatedly delayed by rain and halted after 138 of 200 laps. This year’s race, on a far more serious note, aired on a day of major national news that overshadowed all other events.
