Ratings for the final round of The Masters hit double-digits for the first time in nine years.
The final round of The 2010 Masters, won by Phil Mickelson, drew a 10.7/24 fast-national rating and 16.7 million viewers on CBS Sunday afternoon. Sunday’s telecast was up 29% in ratings and 17% in viewership from last year (8.3/20, 14.3 mil), up 24% and 27%, respectively, from 2008 (8.6/18, 13.1 mil), and up 18% and 12%, respectively, from 2007 (9.1/22, 14.9 mil).
This marks the highest rated, most-viewed final round of The Masters since Tiger Woods won the event in ’01 (13.3/30, 19.2 mil).
Despite the increase, the numbers did not come close to the records set by the 1997 Masters, Woods’ first major victory. That year, the final round drew a 14.1/31 rating and 20.3 million viewers.
Sunday’s coverage peaked with a 13.2/27 rating and 21.3 million viewers from 6:30-7 PM ET.
Saturday’s third round action drew a 6.7 fast-national rating and 9.9 million viewers, up 26% in ratings and 22% in viewership from last year (5.3, 8.1 mil), up 20% and 19%, respectively, from 2008 (5.6, 8.3 mil), and up 14% in both ratings and viewership from 2007 (5.9, 8.7 mil).
This is the first time third round coverage has topped a 6.0 rating since ’02, and the highest rating for third round coverage since ’01.
Overall, CBS averaged a 9.0 rating and 13.8 million viewers for weekend coverage of The Masters, up 27% and 17%, respectively, from last year (7.1, 11.8 mil).
