The first FBS game of the bowl season scored a multi-year high on ABC.
San Diego State/Houston scored a 2.4 final rating and 3.7 million viewers in Saturday’s Las Vegas Bowl on ABC, up 9% in ratings and 2% in viewership from Utah/BYU last year (2.2, 3.7M) and up 71% and 77% respectively from Utah/Colorado State in 2014 (1.4, 2.1M).
The Aztecs’ blowout win ranks as the highest rated and most-watched Las Vegas Bowl since 2012, when Boise State/Washington had a 2.9 and 4.4 million on ESPN.
Going back further, it was the third-most watched Las Vegas Bowl in the past decade — behind 2012 and Boise State/Utah in 2010 (5.4M).
For the weekend, Saturday’s game was the top non-NFL sporting event on any network — topping the Kentucky/North Carolina college basketball game on CBS later in the day (2.2, 3.6M).
