Billed as the biggest game of the year, Monday’s Jets/Patriots game was not even ESPN’s top game of the season.
The Patriots’ 42-point win over the Jets drew an 11.2 overnight rating on ESPN Monday night, up 26% from Week 13 last year (BAL/GB: 8.9), and up 67% from Week 13 in 2008 (JAX/HOU: 6.7).
The 11.2 overnight is the fourth-highest of the season for Monday Night Football (14 telecasts), trailing Giants/Cowboys in Week 7 (12.3), Vikings/Jets in Week 5 (12.2) and Bears/Packers in Week 3 (11.6).
Monday’s game ranked third out of five NFL telecasts over the weekend, behind the NFL national window on FOX (DAL/IND*: 18.0) and Sunday Night Football on NBC (BAL/PIT: 14.6).
The ESPN telecast earned a 12.7 rating in Boston and a 10.8 in New York. As usual, the game was simulcast on local broadcast affiliates in both markets, drawing a 29.5 on Boston ABC affiliate WCVB, and a 6.5 on New York MyNetworkTV affiliate WWOR.
