It was a good game, but a regional matchup of low-profile teams was never going to move the needle.
Wednesday’s Rockies-Diamondbacks National League Wild Card Game had a 2.6 rating and 4.4 million viewers on TBS, down 42% in ratings and 41% in viewership from Giants-Mets on ESPN last year (4.5, 7.4M) and down 48% and 47% respectively from Cubs-Pirates on TBS in 2015 (5.0, 8.3M). Streaming figures were not available.
Compared to last year’s Wild Card game on TBS, Orioles-Blue Jays in the American League, ratings were flat and viewership increased 5% from 4.2 million.
Arizona’s high-scoring win tied the lowest rating yet for the Wild Card round, matching Orioles-Blue Jays last year and Cardinals-Braves in 2012. It earned the third-smallest audience, topping the aforementioned games.
