Recent sports TV numbers, including last week’s EPL ratings on NBC, NASCAR’s Cup and Xfinity Series, IndyCar at Long Beach, and Formula 1 on ESPN.

EPL Ratings: With Title on Line, Man. U. Loss Up Big

Last Sunday’s Manchester United-West Brom English Premier League match, which clinched the Premier League title for Manchester City, had a 0.34 rating and 527,000 viewers on NBCSN — up 36% in ratings and a third in viewership from last year (Liverpool-Crystal Palace: 0.25, 395K).

The previous day, Manchester City’s win over Tottenham had a 0.26 and 431,000 on NBCSN. There was no comparable window last year.

Topping the charts last weekend, Liverpool-Bourmemouth earned a 0.6 and 908,000 on the NBC broadcast network. There was no comparable window last year, but ratings were flat and viewership rose 10% over 2016 (Chelsea-Manchester City: 0.6, 824K).

PPD NASCAR at Bristol Nets Two Million

Last Monday’s rescheduled NASCAR Cup Series Bristol 500 earned 2.0 million viewers on FOX, down 12% from last year’s race, which was also postponed to Monday (2.2M). The initial portion of the race last Sunday had a 2.4 rating and 3.8 million viewers. The spring Bristol race has been run as scheduled just once since 2013.

In other action, last Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race from Bristol pulled a 0.7 rating (flat) and 979,000 viewers (-9%) on FS1. That race was run as scheduled.

IndyCar Long Beach GP Bounces Back

The IndyCar Grand Prix of Long Beach delivered a 0.24 rating and 370,000 viewers on NBCSN last Sunday, up 14% in ratings and 15% in viewership from last year, when viewership hit a decade-plus low (0.21, 321K). Compared to 2016, viewership declined 8% from 402,000.

For the second straight year, IndyCar trailed the previous day’s IMSA race at Long Beach, which had a 0.35 and 491,000 on the FOX broadcast network. That was down 40% in ratings and 41% in viewership from last year (0.6, 837K).

Chinese GP Down, But F1 Viewership Up Double-Digits

The Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix scored 284,000 viewers on ESPN2 last Sunday, down 1% from last year on NBCSN (287K). Both figures are race-only. F1 races are averaging 375,000 viewers on ESPN2 so far this season, up 14% from last year on NBCSN and CNBC (328K).
