Ron Darling has the collapse of the New York Mets to thank for his new television role.
The elimination of the Mets from playoff contention made Darling, Mets analyst for SportsNet NY, available to be added to Turner Sports’ MLB playoff roster. Darling will work with Dick Stockton during the Division Series, replacing Bob Brenly, who will now join Chip Caray and Tony Gwynn in a three-man booth for the entire postseason. Stockton and Darling will broadcast the Cubs/Diamondbacks NLDS series.
In other TBS MLB news, the lead team of Caray, Brenly and Gwynn will work the Yankees/Indians ALDS series. Despite being the Wild Card, the Yankees are undoubtedly the biggest draw in the playoffs — and will likely secure as many prime-time spots as possible. Caray, Brenly and Gwynn will not work tonight’s NL one-game playoff; instead, the game between the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres will feature Red Sox announcer Don Orsillo on the call with analyst Joe Simpson.
