The indictment of Barry Bonds led all three national network newscasts on Thursday night.
The CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News and ABC World News each led with the news of Bonds’ indictment, with each network giving approximately three minutes of coverage to the story.
Charles Gibson led his ABC World News telecast by saying: “Normally, they throw pitches at Barry Bonds. Tonight, they threw the book at him.” Gibson then turned over the proceedings to reporter Jim Avila, whose feature — in an example of Disney synergy — included a segment from Pardon the Interruption.
The NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams featured a report by George Lewis, that included snippets from Jim Gray‘s recent MSNBC sit-down interview with Bonds.
Former CBS Sports reporter Armen Keteyian had a feature on the Bonds indictment for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. CBS aired the shortest feature on Bonds.
