In a season of high points, the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants delivered the NFL another huge number.
The Giants’ Divisional Round victory over the Cowboys drew 40.1 million viewers on FOX Sunday evening, the most viewers for a television program since the ’07 Academy Awards, and the largest audience for an NFL Divisional game since 1997.
To put the 40.1 million viewers in perspective, only the NFL and the Olympics have drawn that many viewers for a single event this decade. The 40.1 million viewers is also higher than the 33.2 million viewers who tuned into the season premiere of American Idol last night.
Though final national ratings are currently unavailable, the game was a hit locally, averaging a 45.8 in Dallas, and a 28.0 in New York.
