The 2008 MLB All Star game nearly lasted the length of two full games, and was issued two separate sets of overnight ratings.
For the first nine innings of the game, FOX averaged an 11.0 overnight rating, up 11% from a 9.9/17 last year. The 11.0 for the first nine innings would be the best for the MLB All Star Game since 2003. The first nine innings averaged 14.5 million viewers from 8:42-11:42 PM ET.
Nielsen counted the last six innings of the game separately. According to the Sports Business Daily, “Nielsen allows networks to break out events like this for unique circumstances.” FOX drew an 8.9/21 overnight for the final portion of the game, which lasted until 1:37 PM ET.
In prime time, the game drew a 10.4 overnight.
