CBS took the top spot among NFL rightsholders on Sunday, but FOX was the only network to see increased ratings.
The top rated NFL game on Sunday was the late afternoon Colts/Packers battle on CBS, which drew a 14.7/28 overnight rating. The 14.7 marks an 8% decline from a 15.9 for Vikings/Cowboys last year, which aired on FOX.
Early game coverage on CBS drew a 7.9/17, off 13% from a 9.1 for single game coverage in ’07.
NBC saw even sharper declines, as the network drew the lowest overnight rating ever for a prime time NFL game on broadcast. Sunday Night Football, featuring the Seahawks against the Buccaneers, drew a 7.2/11 overnight, off 23% from a 9.4 for Steelers/Broncos a year ago.
While ratings slumped on NBC and CBS, FOX was the only network to see increased ratings on Sunday. Singleheader coverage drew a 11.1/24 overnight rating, up 23% from a 9.0 for comparable coverage last year.
* Edited to fix mistake; originally said FOX rating was a 9.5/21.
