While intelligent, reasoned debate is not something usually associated with the Internet — particularly with sports message boards — one Pittsburgh Penguins fan went over the line.
The NHL and Pittsburgh police investigated an online death threat made against Capitals’ star Alex Ovechkin by a fan on the Pittsburgh Penguins official message board. The fan, a Chambersburg, PA teenager, wrote, “[I’m] killing Ovechkin [I’ll] go to jail [I don’t] care anymore.”
Officials “don’t believe Ovechkin was ever in any real danger.” In a statement, the Washington Capitals said “We … have every confidence in our club’s safety.”
